Cosmetic Botox

Botox is used for various reasons, and some of them are therapeutic. For example, we can use Botox for excessive sweating, migraines, and lazy eye. However, Botox is best known for its cosmetic uses. It is commonly used to smooth facial wrinkles and create a younger appearance. Botox is administered with injection. The injections contain a toxin called onobotulinumtoxinA.

.

This compound is used to keep a muscle from moving temporarily. The solution is made by a microbe that causes botulism. When you want Botox cosmetics for wrinkles or fine lines, you can get them from an ophthalmologist. Call Fishman and Sheridan Eye Care Specialists in Leesburg, FL, to see the doctor.

How Botox Works

When Botox is injected into the muscles of the face, it will serve as a block for specific signals that come from the nerves. These signals cause the muscles to contract. This contraction leads to wrinkles and lines. When patients get Botox injections into their muscles, it keeps them from contracting so that the wrinkles are smoothed out. It can be used in various face areas, including on the forehead, around the eyes, and the mouth. When you get Botox injections, there isn't a lot of pain or discomfort. However, you can ask to have your skin numbed before getting them if needed. There are different ways that the skin can be numbed so that you don't feel the injections. These options may be vibration, a topical numbing agent, or ice.

Getting Botox Injections

When you get Botox injections from an ophthalmologist, it is performed right there in the eye doctor's office. A tiny needle injects the muscles with minimal amounts of the botulinum. The areas that are getting the injections will determine how many of them you need to get the desired results. Once you have had the injections, it can take a few days to notice the difference. Once the result is there, you will continue to see it for anywhere from three to five months. After that, you need to get the injections to get the results.

Our BOTOX Treatment Options

Many patients don't realize that Allergan produces two botulinum toxin injectable products: BOTOX and BOTOX Cosmetic. We offer both of these products in our offices in EustisClermont, and Leesburg to treat medical and cosmetic issues that affect the areas around the eyes.

Medical BOTOX

BOTOX is a medical treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including hyperhidrosis, cervical dystonia, and overactive bladder. While we don't treat these conditions at our EustisClermont, and Leesburg, FL, offices, we do use BOTOX to treat conditions such as:

Blepharospasm

Constant eyelid spasms can be irritating and make you feel self-conscious. During a short, in-office procedure, we can inject BOTOX through the skin and into the overactive muscles causing the spasms. This treatment is approved by the FDA for use in patients aged 12 and older, and the results last for about three months.

Chronic Migraines

BOTOX is FDA approved to treat chronic migraines. This means that patients have 15 or more headache days a month, each lasting four or more hours. Our eye doctors can inject BOTOX into specific locations around the head and neck to reduce the occurrence and severity of chronic migraines. The results typically last for about two and a half months.

BOTOX Cosmetic

Most patients are familiar with the benefits offered by BOTOX Cosmetic, with results typically lasting for three to four months. In our Central Florida offices, we use BOTOX Cosmetic to treat:

Forehead Lines

The horizontal creases that form across the forehead can be softened to reduce or even eliminate their appearance. The result is smoother facial skin and a more youthful look.

Creases Between Eyebrows

The vertical lines that form between the brows can give you a harsh look, despite how you feel. By reducing the severity of these lines, you can achieve a rejuvenated appearance.

Crow's Feet

The fine lines and wrinkles that extend from the corners of the eyes can be minimized with the BOTOX procedure. Crow's feet are one of the first signs of aging that patients wish to address.

All of these uses of BOTOX Cosmetic are safe and approved for use by the FDA.

BOTOX Side Effects

The side effects of BOTOX and BOTOX Cosmetic are typically minimal. Some patients report skin tenderness, itchiness, bruising, redness, and swelling at the injection site. These possible side effects are typically most noticeable in the hours or first couple days after treatment and subside quickly. We can discuss any concerns you have during your appointment at our EustisClermont, or Leesburg, FL, offices.
