The Blepharoplasty Consultation
At Fishman & Sheridan eyeCare Specialists, eyelid surgery begins with a consultation. Our doctors view this step as a critical opportunity to discuss your cosmetic goals, understand your individual needs, and thoroughly review your medical history. If it is determined that you are a good candidate for blepharoplasty, your surgery will move forward only after you are satisfied with your customized treatment plan.
The Blepharoplasty Procedure
How your surgeon performs eyelid surgery depends on whether you will be undergoing upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both. It may also be the case that you have decided to undergo an additional procedure with the doctor’s support. This will all be determined during the consultation process.
Upper eyelid surgery targets the sagging skin above the eye, as well as the fatty tissue that causes puffiness around the eye. The traditional procedure begins with the meticulous removal of excess skin and fat. Once your surgeon has removed any of this excess tissue, he literally lifts and reattaches the remaining skin. If need be, muscles are also repositioned.
Lower eyelid surgery targets the fat deposits which buildup beneath the eye, causing under-eye bags and puffiness (excess skin may also be removed if necessary). The traditional procedure begins with an incision below the lower lashes, followed by the removal of excess fat and skin. Occasionally, the surgeon will redistribute the fat to enhance the area above the cheeks.
